KONA USA

Why Kona?

Kona Energy’s mission is to help deliver a Zero Carbon future, whilst ensuring cleaner and cheaper energy for all. The Kona Energy management team have a strong track record in developing and transacting upon large-scale battery storage projects. The organisation is widely regarded as one of the UK’s leading battery storage companies, having recently developed one of the largest energy storage projects in Europe. Kona is aiming to transfer that extensive experience into the American market - delivering projects comprehensively, efficiently and in rapid time.

Why battery storage?

Battery storage facilities are used to balance the US electricity system. When there is a period of excess renewable electricity generation, for example on a sunny day, the batteries will be charged. When demand rises, the batteries will discharge. The Texan Grid can utilise this clean energy, rather than paying a fossil fuelled power station to turn on.

Why do we need more battery storage?

Traditional power plants powered by coal and nuclear are reaching the end of their operational lives and being replaced by cheaper renewable energy sources. The US needs a huge volume of battery storage facilities to manage the intermittent nature of renewables and ensure the lights stay on. It is a critical technology in delivering the vital energy security that Americans expect.
